A Summary of SCA response to the Covid 19 Health situation affecting the people of Montengarde
Update from their Excellencies Bjar and Bóthildr 29 April 2020:
Greetings Montengarde!
As per the recommendation of the SCA Board of Directors, and Their Royal Majesties of Avacal, we will be extending the cancellation of all in-person Taverns, practices, meetings and events until July 31st, 2020.
This also means that Dragonslayer 2020 will be postponed until 2021. Our sincere thanks go out to Sir Ellias, Sir Kiera and their whole wonderful household of Dovershire that put in the event bid and were in the midst of preparation leading up to what would have been a stellar event.
We greatly appreciate the strength, determination, patience and cooperation of our populace during this very difficult period!
We encourage you to participate in the various online classes being offered, check out what is going on on the Avacal Discord pages, the virtual Bardic circle on Zoom, and various independent A&S FaceTime groups popping up.
We may be far apart, but we are close together in heart, and NON TAURUS EST!!!!!
We will get through this and come out stronger on the other end!

As a Barony we are committed to keeping our activities within the health and safety standards of the City of Calgary. If you missed last council and the discussion of such, here’s the current situation.
We will be posting updates as to when normal practices and events will be happening. At this time, we are hopeful that Samhain will happen. Stay safe, be well, and thank you for supporting one another.

Kingdom of Avacal Response
Update From their Majesties 18 April 2020:
Greetings, Avacal, from your King and Queen in this unprecedented time,
As the COVID-19 crisis continues to cause uncertainty and upheaval, We find Ourselves compelled to uphold to the oath We swore as your sovereigns to defend and protect the people of this kingdom. That protection concerns not only the physical well-being of Our people, but also their mental health, as well as the financial stability of the groups in which they reside.
It is for those reasons We have asked that all groups in Avacal choose to cancel all events, meetings, and practices until July 31, 2020, making Quad War the next potential time we will all be able to gather in fellowship. We do this with a heavy heart, but are confident that We are doing the right thing by protecting our people. We have arrived at this decision in consultation with Our Heirs, Our seneschal, and the leadership of Our baronies. This will, of course, affect the Coronation of Prince Vik and Princess A’isha, which was slated to happen on June 6. We are in the process of securing a waiver of Copora, the laws which govern the Society, which will allow us to postpone our Heirs’ Coronation until such time as we can all welcome them as our new sovereigns properly as a kingdom. Should the fates be with us, We will crown Our Heirs at Quad War in a celebration certain to rival any Avacal has ever seen. In addition, many Championships, both baronial and kingdom, will be affected by this action. For Our kingdom Champions, We ask that you remain in your office for a while longer, as we determine the best course of action to select your successors. For those of you serving terms on a baronial level, we ask that you consult with your Baron and Baroness on their chosen course of action.
In the unlikely happenstance that we are all able to safely gather before Quad War, We are open to the idea of holding events prior to July 31. We remain watchful of the mundane health authorities; should the bans on non-essential travel and mass gatherings be relaxed in the majority of the jurisdictions which comprise Avacal, We would gratefully hear proposals for event ideas. We know this news is not easy to hear, but hope it serves to address some of the uncertainty that you have been facing.
