On behalf of Montengarde and our many guests,

Thank you moderators:
Domina Diana Africana; Rudaba; Rúnfríðr Öpirdottir; Clare MacLeod; Kat Ginere; Meisterin Adelheid; Custance, Master James; Baron Bjar the Blue; Natal’ia Volkovicha; Sayidda al-Zahra; Gabriel De Lion; Count Kvigr Ivarsson; HL Jerusha a’Laon; Nikita; Johanna; Muirenn inghean mhic Raith; HL Rhiannon Boyle; Hamish MacCarraig; Althea Tambourri; Fionnghuala; David DuPont

And heading the teams that made this event, HL Drífa at lækjarmóti, Class Co-ordinator who contacted and recruited the amazing and varied instructors for classes this weekend; HL Li Xia, Tech Steward who set up the tech side of things and kept the wheels running. These amazing people took an idea and made it into this event.

Thank you
In Service
Bjar the Blue
Event Steward
Baron of Montengarde

And very fortunate to have all these people who came together to make this happen at a time when we cannot join together in the regular way. I’m not tearing up … honest!

Stir the virtual fire and join your host THL Mathias Hakonson for a classic evening bardic circle. Fill your mug or cup with the beverage of your choice to wet your whistle, and then be ready to perform or be entertained by the many bards and aspiring bards of Avacal and guests from other kingdoms eager to share their love of all things bardic. Youth are welcome with supervision of a parent or guardian, but the entertainment may get bawdy as the night progresses.

A&S Round Table

Hosted by Baron Bjar; join the discussion to share what you’ve been working on through this online format. Like the format we used in person, your project doesn’t have to be complete, or recent – just something you’d like to share with others. You can also bring a work-in-progress you’d like feedback on. To get the most out of this social time, please arrive at the beginning and plan to stay as long as people are contributing their Arts & Science projects.
Meeting Room: Sunday at 10:00am – Zoom ID: 858 4996 7771

Laurel Meet & Greet

Hosted by Meisterin Adelheid, join the social room to chat all things Arts & Science, learn from the Laurels of Avacal and elsewhere, or just come and chat & catch up with other artisans.
Meeting Room: Sunday at 12:00pm – Zoom ID: 858 4996 7771

Afternoon Bardic

Need to get your bardic circle fix, but need to turn in a little earlier than the usual bardic circle would allow? (Or just want to get in as much bardic time as possible?) Come join an unusual afternoon bardic circle. Performing is of course optional – feel free to come and just watch, listen, & support the Bards of Avacal and our warmly welcomed guests from other kingdoms. This bardic circle will continue as long as there are bards willing to perform!

Words from Montengarde’s A&S Champion – A&S Quarantine Tourney

Greetings Ladies and Lords,

The snow has fallen, and the harvest is almost complete. Samhain is just around the corner. The physical event is cancelled, so it will be held online.

The A&S tournament theme will be the classic “What you did during quarantine”: any A&S type projects you worked on over the last eight or nine months. If you didn’t work on anything A&S but would still like to participate, tell me about something you worked on and how it would’ve been done in medieval times.

Since there’s no physical location to display your projects, submissions will be online. Take lots of pictures and have a write up describing your project, how it went, what you learned, and what you would do differently next time. The deadline will be the Sunday of the original weekend of Samhain, November 8, 2020. Please send entries to champion-as [at] montengarde [dot] org. All entries will receive a token and the winner will receive a prize.

Any questions, please email me.

Words from Montengarde’s Dragonblade (Rapier Champion)

Update Dec 7:
Rapier Fighters! (And all others interested in participating!)

Your Basket of Mystery Building Materials includes:

Silver Duct Tape (not aluminium tape for ducts)

A piece of Foam

A piece of Cloth (in honour of Her Excellency)

Something Blue (in honour of His Excellency)

All four items must be separate items (eg: you can use blue foam, but you must then use another item that is either blue, or foam). All materials need not be visible, but you must describe how they were included in your parrying device in your description.

Your time starts…

Now!

Greetings Rapier Fighters,

Samhain is fast approaching, and while we can’t cross blades in person, we can still compete online.

There was to be a Baroness’s Brawl at Samhain this year, so instead how about we prepare for the next time we meet by creating BAR BRAWL INSPIRED OFF-HAND PARRYING DEVICES.

RULES:
1) On the day of I will post a Chopped-style list of mandatory mystery materials that you must incorporate into your Parrying Device in some way. This will be posted to the Samhain Facebook event page.
2) All entries must be built new for the competition.
3) All Parrying Devices must meet standards set out in the Avacal Book of Rapier section 2.4 (page 13), found in the link below.
4) The Parrying Device must be something that you you would have brought with you to a tavern/pub, or that you would likely find if a brawl erupted.
5) All submissions must be received by 4pm MST (UTC-6) on Sunday, November 8th (allowing plenty of time for building and acquiring materials). Winner(s) will be announced that evening.

SCORING:
Points will be awarded for creativity, incorporation of the mystery materials, functionality, and fun.

SUBMISSION:
Submit photos/video of your Parrying Device to the Samhain Facebook event page and tag myself (Steve Haywood), BaronBlue, and BaronessBóthilðr. Please include a brief description of the item and where you incorporated the mandatory mystery materials.

Good crafting!
