As well there is a largess challenge, Armoured tournament. As well as a silent auction and fund raiser lunch where proceeds go to the Montengarde War Wagon (sending our fine fighters to Utsalmas)!! And a feast made by the King himself!!! Don’t miss this amazing first event of the year!!!!

Rapier Tournament:
We begin the search to find the next Dragonblade for our current is growing slow and tired from a year’s worth of service. He has earnt his rest. Come out this Twelfth Night and fight for the right to call yourself the Dragons blade of Montengarde. You must be a member in good standing, and you must send a letter of intent to vie to HE Refr Bjarnarson and HE Adis Ulfsdottir to the following email:
excellencies@montengarde.org as well as to His Holiness the Dandy Lama, Arjun Singh at jaspaul.yuva@gmail.com no later than 11 January 2024.
The tournament format will be a Round Robin, with the semifinals and finals being the best of three bouts. Fighters may do battle with weapons of a combined blade length of 62″, as well as spears up to 72″ in length. Shields will be restricted to a diameter of 18″, or a surface area of 255 sq in.
We eagerly look forward to seeing the fighters of Montengarde and its surrounding areas test each others’ mettle and see who will rise as the new Dragonblade Champion!

9am -10am Medieval and Renaissance Spice Mixes of Western Europe
Instructor: Jonker Allert Pierson
Cost: $5 to cover the cost of spices
Class time: 1 hour Max participants: 10 Pre-registration not required, but deeply appreciated.
In this practical, hands-on class, we will explore two different spice mixes (or “powders”)—powder fort and powder douce. We’ll discuss culinary applications in both period and modern cookery, spice usage in western Europe throughout the period, and taste some of the spices contained in these mixes which are found less commonly in modern western European cuisine today. Then, we’ll experiment and create our own signature powders together to take home and enjoy.
For allergy awareness purposes: the following spices will be used in varying quantities during this class: ginger, cinnamon, cloves, galangal, long pepper, black pepper, cubebs, grains of paradise, mace, nutmeg.
We will be using popped popcorn tossed with a small amount of neutral oil to taste some spices, but this is optional. Working with powdered spices can make you sneeze, so you may wish to bring a mask to cover your nose and mouth!
11am-12am Bead it and Bead GOOD! (beading on cloth 101)

In this hands-on class learn the basic techniques of adding beads to embellish cloth. A discussion of historical beads and their applications will accompany this class
12AM to 1PM DEIB Round Table

Let’s talk about DEIB in the SCA. How does it manifest, affect people, and ways we can simply be better. This is an open discussion format with no particular agenda items. Lets work together to make the SCA a more inclusive and accessible environment.
1pm- 2pm Basic Round Shield Construction
Instructor: HRM Kiera, HE Sir Fergus
Cost: Free
Class time: 1 hour or less if things go quick. Max participants: No max, whoever would like to
Come learn a method of building a round shield for combat. We’ll go over materials, methods of construction using said materials and tips and tricks learned along the way. If we have time, we can also touch on how to use the dinner plate you’ve just built. Class is open to anyone interested regardless of combat persuasion.
2pm–3pm Beginner silk painting
Instructor: Mistress Morrigan
Cost: free
Class time: 1 hour. Max participants: 5
Learn the basics of silk painting with this hands-on opportunity. These skills can be scaled up to create your own banners. Students will learn to transfer a design to stretched silk and apply outline and colour to their piece. A discussion of period techniques and an overview of the history silk painting during the class will occur.
3pm – 4pm Medieval People Wore Clothes and So Should You
