Hail Montengarde, we are looking for a volunteer,

Their Majesties have raised concerns with the Noble Estates about the mentality in the SCA for “triumphing over the weather” to get to an event. This is a Society-Wide mentality, but also can be stronger in Avacal and the Canadian Kingdoms, because we tend to be a bit more dismissive of bad weather.

The problem with this mindset is that we put ourselves at risk of pushing ourselves and our vehicles beyond our limits, and putting ourselves and others at risk by driving through bad weather and inopportune conditions. Some examples that come to mind are Estrella this past winter, returning from AT War during the flooding, and driving to at least one Yule Feast in near white-out conditions.

TM would like to create a Kingdom-Level council to be able to assess and determine the risk level for events, and make the call on whether it is necessary for the safety of the populace to cancel an event. This will take it out of the hands of an event steward, who has an investment in the event, and gives the decision a group face, rather than a single decision maker.

We are looking for a member of Montengarde to assist with this by volunteering for this council. If you are interested, please contact us directly at excellencies@montengarde.org.

Danke
